Description
Sibutramine or Meridia helps extremely overweight people lose weight and keep it off. It is especially advised for people who are overweight and have other health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol. It is used in conjunction with a low-calorie diet. Sibutramine works by increasing the levels of certain chemical messengers in the neurological system, such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.
If you have a hypersensitive reaction to Sibutramine, you may be unable to take it. You should also avoid Sibutramine (and don’t want it) if you have anorexia nervosa, a compulsive dieting disorder. Do not use Sibutramine with other appetite suppressants, and do not use it within 2 weeks of taking an MAO inhibitor, which includes the antidepressant medications Marplan, Nardil, and Parnate.
