Hydrocodone, also known as dihydrocodeinone, is a semi-artificial opioid derived from two naturally occurring opiates, codeine and thebaine.

As a narcotic, hydrocodone relieves pain by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord. It can be done with or without food, as desired.
