What is Dronabinol 2.5mg Capsules ?
Dronabinol 2.5mg Capsules are used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy in people who have previously taken other medications to treat this type of nausea and vomiting with poor results.
2.5mg Dronabinol Capsules are also used to treat anorexia and weight loss in people diagnosed with immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Dronabinol 2.5mg Capsules belong to the class of medications known as cannabinoids. It works by affecting the part of the brain that controls nausea, vomiting, and the desire to eat.
How should Dronabinol be used?
Dronabinol is available as a pill and as a solution (liquid) to be taken orally. When dronabinol drugs and solutions are used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, they are taken 1 to 3 hours before chemotherapy and then again 2 to 4 hours after chemotherapy, for a total of four to six doses in the afternoon. The first dose of the solution is usually taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before consumption, but subsequent doses can be taken with or without meals. When dronabinol drugs and solutions increase the desire for food, they are typically taken twice a day, approximately an hour before lunch and supper. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any components you don’t understand. Dronabinol should be taken exactly as directed.
Do not chew or crush the drugs; instead, swallow them whole.
Swallow the dronabinol solution with a full glass of water (6 to eight oz).
Always use an oral dosing syringe containing dronabinol to increase your dose gradually. When you have questions about how to measure your dronabinol dose, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Your doctor will likely start you on a low dose of dronabinol and gradually increase it. Your doctor may also reduce your amount if you experience side effects that do not go away after one to three days. Tell your doctor how you’re feeling during your dronabinol treatment.
Dronabinol has the potential to cause dependence. Please do not take a higher dose, take it more frequently, or take it for a more extended time than your doctor has prescribed. If you discover that you require more treatment, contact your doctor.
Dronabinol will most effectively control your signs and symptoms while taking the medication. Even if you’re feeling great, keep taking dronabinol. Do not stop taking dronabinol without first consulting your doctor. If you stop taking dronabinol abruptly, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, difficulty falling or staying asleep, restlessness, hot flashes, sweating, runny nose, diarrhea, hiccups, and loss of appetite.
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children. Keep medicines in a cool place (36-59 °F, 8-15 °C) or the refrigerator. Don’t let the tablets freeze. Refrigerate the unopened dronabinol solution in its original container. After opening, the dronabinol solution can be stored at room temperature for up to 28 days. Keep the medicine away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture.
Keep dronabinol in a secure location so that no one else takes it accidentally or on purpose. Keep track of how many drugs and answers you received last to identify if any medicinal drugs are missing.
What side effects can Dronabinol 2.5mg Capsules cause?
Dronabinol 2.5mg Capsules could cause side effects. Inform your doctor if any of the following symptoms become severe or do not go away:
weakness
stomach ache
nausea
vomiting
loss of memory
anxiety
confusion
sleepiness sissue concentrating sdizziness
shaky strolling
feeling as if you are outside of your frame
“excessive” or “heightened” mood
Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that do not exist)
ordinary or unusual mental complications
vision problems
experiencing dizziness
Some unintended consequences may be critical. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor immediately:
Fast seizures or a pounding heartbeat
fainting
Dronabinol 2.5mg Capsules may cause other side effects.
